Menu item 32: Restore spool file from SAV file (CVTSTMSPLF)

The command "Convert Stream to Spooled File" (CVTSTMSPLF) compliments the CVTSPLSAV command and restores spooled files from stream file archives.

This command has four parameters:

FROMSTMF (From Data Stream File)

This parameter specifies the name of the stream file archive from which a spooled file will be restored.

The name of the stream file can be specified in two ways.

The first option is to enter a full path name on this parameter, which is the complete directory path and the name of the file to be created or replaced.

The second option is to enter only the name of the file itself. The directory path, in which the file will be saved in the FROMDIR (From Directory) parameter, must then be specified.

The name can have up to 128 characters.

The stream file MUST have been created with the CVTSPLSAV command.

NEWOWN (New Owner)

Determines the user profile which owns the spooled file that is restored.
The default value is *SPLF, which specifies that the owner of the original spooled file is the owner of the restored spooled file. An error will occur, if the user profile owing the original file is not saved in the system in which the spooled file will be saved.
This error can be avoided by entering a different user profile with this parameter.
Possible Values:

*SPLF The owner is the same as the owner of the saved spooled file.
*CURRENTThe new owner is the user who is running this command.
User-nameThe name of the user who owns the restored spooled file.
OUTPTY (Output Priority)

Assigns an output priority to the restored spooled file.
The default is *SPLF, which assigns the output priority of the original spooled file to the restored file. If the priority is larger than the maximum priority of the restoring user, than the restoration will fail. This error can be avoided by entering an appropriate priority value in this parameter.
Possible Values:

*SPLFThe output priority is the same as the original spooled file.
PriorityThe new priority (1-9)
RSTSPLRSC (Restore Spooled File's resources)

Determines if spooled file resource objects that were saved in the stream file will be restored.

Extract Resources

Determines if spooled file resource objects that were saved in the stream file will be restored.

*NOSaved spooled file resource objects such as overlays, page segments, and fonts will not be restored.
*YESSaved spooled file resource objects such as overlays, page segments, and fonts will be restored.
Restore to Library

Names the library to which the objects will be restored.

*SAVLIBThe objects will be restored under the same name under which they were originally saved.
NameEnter the name of the library where the objects should be restored.
Replace Existing Objects

Determines if existing objects will be replaced.

*NOExisting objects will not be replaced.
*YESExisting objects will be replaced.
Allow Object Differences

Determines if object differences (such as a discrepancy in ownership or authorization list) between the existing object and the object to be restored are allowed.

*NONENo object differences are allowed. If the existing object is different from the object to be restored in terms of ownership, authorization list, or primary group, the restoration will fail.
*ALLObject differences are allowed.
FROMDIR (From Directory)

Determines the directory path where the desired stream file is located.

The default is *FROMSTMF, which specifies that the complete directory path of the data stream file was specified in the FROMSTMF parameter and the FROMDIR parameter is not required.
