Menu item 18: Convert spool file into SAV format (CVTSPLSAV)

The command "Convert Spooled file to Spool Archive" (CVTSPLSAV) converts spooled files to stream files in an i-effect®'s proprietary format for compressed spooled file archives.
Either the CVTSTMSPLF or RSTSPLF command can be used to restore the original spooled file from the stream file created by this command. Because the stream file is compressed it will occupy less disk space than the original spooled file.
Please note: (Depending on the IFS file system selected) the stream files created using this option may still reside on Power Systems. Use the OS/400 SAV command to back up these stream files to tape, or copy them to CD-ROM or to a PC server, in order to truly secure spooled files. These archive files are not viewable in any PC application.

Data Compression(DTACPR)

Specify the level of data compression to be applied when creating the spooled file archive.
Data compression is a trade-off between compression ratio and time. The higher the compression ratio that is attempted, the longer the data will take to compress. The options below enable selection of a high compression ratio (renders the smallest SAV files but takes longer to create) or the fastest conversion time (produces larger SAV files but runs more quickly).
Possible Values:

*OPTStream data in SAV files is compressed. The level of compression provides a good degree of data compression, but does not take long to compress.
*NONEStream data in SAV files is not compressed. The resultant SAV files will be significantly larger than if data compression was applied, but will take less time to create.
*FASTESTThe lowest and fastest level of data compression.
*FASTER

Compression ratio less than *FAST but higher than *FASTEST.

*FASTCompression ratio less than *OPT but higher than *FASTER.
*HIGHCompression ratio higher than *OPT but less than *HIGHER.
*HIGHERCompression ratio higher than *HIGH but less than *MAX.
*MAXThe maximum possible level of data compression is applied; SAV files will be as small as possible, but take the longest time to create.
SAVSPLRSCDetermines if objects referenced in the spooled file as such as overlays, page segments and fonts should also be saved.

IFS resources are currently not supported by this command.

Save Resources
*NOObjects referenced in the spooled file will not be saved.
*YESObjects referenced in the spooled file will also be saved.
Target Release

The operating system release under which the objects will be saved.

The format for the target release is thus: VxRxMx. Vx is the version, Rx is the release, and Mx is the modification level. V5R3M0 is, for example, the short for of verion 5, release 3, modification level 0.

*CURRENTThe object will be saved and used under the operating system which is currently in use. The object can be resaved on a system which has a newer release of the operating system.
*PRVThe object will be saved under the previous operating system release with a modification level of 0. The object can be resaved on a system which has a newer release of the operating system.
V5R3M0-V5R4M0Enter the release according to the format VxRxMx. The object can be resaved on a system which has a newer release of the operating system.
